The TRA Medical Imaging Foundation in Tacoma has committed $150,000 to support 23 imaging-sciences students across Pierce and Kitsap counties.
The funding will assist 10 continuing scholars and 13 newly awarded students enrolled in radiologic technology, diagnostic medical sonography, and MRI programs at Tacoma Community College, Bates Technical College and Olympic College. The scholarships, ranging from $7,500-10,000, are intended to ease financial barriers during intensive programs that require extensive clinical training, a release said.
“This commitment reflects a coordinated regional strategy to strengthen the imaging workforce pipeline,” said MultiCare Health System's Bart Thompson in the release. “By supporting students in imaging-sciences programs, we are investing in health care access, workforce stability, and economic mobility across our region.”
Since launching its education fund in 2020, the foundation has expanded from supporting one college and one program to three colleges and five programs. To date, 21 graduates have completed their studies and now work in imaging roles across the region. Additional scholarship application cycles are planned for spring and fall to support future cohorts.
